Major alterations and refurbishment of a large listed townhouse in Belgravia. The existing property consists of the main house as well as two conected mews houses at the rear. An un-lovely central lightwell did little to benefit the house and added to the awkward and convoluted circulation. We obtained planning approval to enlarge and enclose the lightwell to create a spacious and light-filled internal atrium which includes a spectacular floating stone stair, unlocking movement through the house and creating a brand new space at its heart. The entire house underwent a complete internal and external refurbishment and was completed in 2013. This project was carried out under my directorship at Cross Harris Umney Architects. Stone staircases fabricated by The Stonemasonry Company.
